“Wherever you hear the trumpet sound, rally to us there. Our God will fight for us!”  Neh. 4:20

“Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying: Who should I send? Who will go for Us? I said: Here I am. Send me.”  Isa. 6:8

Unqualified… Uneducated… Unfit… Unprepared… Unskilled… Unequipped… Unable…

These are words that we let define us as we walk along our faith journey. These are words that paralyze us into inactivity. These are words that keep us in our comfort zone, unable and unwilling to boldly step out and act as the Bible instructs us. These are words that I let define me for many years as I passively lived out my faith. Watching… following… spectating… a casual observer to my own Christian life.

Through a great deal of prayer and fellowship with some incredibly faithful people, my eyes were opened to everything I had been missing. I was pulled from the audience, encouraged to come off the sidelines to become a more active participant in my own faith journey. It was then that I felt the calling in my life. God called me to serve. First, in the choir, then leading a youth group, then adults. That led to reading scripture, praying over the congregation, delivering sermons, and joining the church staff. All things I would never have considered prior to learning from and being lifted up by an active and loving church family. It is my wish to be part of that support system for others as they mature in their faith.

It is a privilege to join the Benton Christian Church family. I am humbled by the reception the community has given me and my family. In this season of change for both us and BCC, I am reminded that through our faith, God qualifies us. Despite our shortcomings, Jesus Christ prepares us by His example. Although we are filled with doubt, the Holy Spirit equips us. I ask each of you reading this message… have you heard the trumpet sound? Have you heard the voice of the Lord saying: “Who shall I send?” I boldly invite my brothers and sisters in Christ to join me with the answer… OUR GOD WILL FIGHT FOR US!  SEND ME!

Pastor Ken began his ministry at Benton Christian Church in January of 2024. Prior to joining the staff at BCC, Ken was Director of Next Generation Ministries at Shiloh Bible Church in Bloomsburg. Ken also served in many roles within his home church, Benton UMC… Director of Community Connections, lay leader, church council member, small group leader, youth Sunday school teacher, “hype man”, and speaker. He has a passion for people, especially children and young adults, and cherishes the opportunity to walk alongside others on their faith journey as they deepen their own, personal relationship with God. Ken enjoys coaching youth sports and volunteering at the community center in Benton where he lives with his wife, Jessica, and their three sons… Wilmar, Stover, and Ryker.
